Shylock's Venice:
Reflections on the History, Art, and Culture
of the World's First Ghetto.
|
Known
throughout the world for its unparalleled beauty and remarkable
artistic achievements, Venice also presents a rich mosaic of Jewish
history and cultural expression.
Art historian Lisa Calevi, who maintains strong ties to the city
through her affiliation with the Venice Center for International Jewish
Studies, will discuss the Jewish history of Venice-from the ghetto
founding in 1516 to a modern-day community now facing unique and
potentially divisive challenges.
